I like Institute. It just sounds more education oriented. If your up for other suggestions, what about The New Sports Economic Academy? I like Economic instead of Economy also.

I think if volume is high enough, we could do an annual dividend at season end, or at fiscal year end or quarterly to avoid any perceived linkage to games. I liked the dividends, but I’m getting more conservative in my investments.

I think a great example of why the average sports fan won’t participate can be seen in what happened on ASM when it became a requirement to send in your personal information according to the ‘Know Your Customer’ requirements. ASM went into melt down. Since I had already opened a trading account, I was already [...]

I guess I’m probably in the minority on this, but I don’t think ‘average’ sports fan will be that active no matter what the price. I compare it to how many people are interested in actively trading their 401(k). I think most activity will come from institutional traders and money managers handling accounts for other [...]

Yes, considering the variables, I thought the SRI would follow the financials. It’s good to know your test studies showed that and like you say gives evidence to it not being a gambling instrument.
I hope the 3 elements are progressing.

This article is about the Pitsburg Pirates and how they maximize profits by not winning. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=5484947&campaign=rss&source=ESPNHeadlines This brings up the question of how the Pirate’s SRI would have performed in this situation. Would it have gone up with the finances or would it have gone flat or down with the win/lose record? This maybe another [...]

Interesting read. I wasn’t aware that there was a consolidated pool of money that was redistributed to the poorer teams. 34% is quite a bit.

This brings up another interesting element. When discussing how our licensing revenues will be remitted, we decided to settle the entire sum for trading across all teams to the league as a gross amount. The funds would then be distributed according to existing league licensing revenue sharing policy. I can see this becoming a point of serious argument between the owners and the league as revenues grow. The main alternate proposal will be a new regime whereby each team would receive the licensing revenues tied directly to trading in their instruments subject to some sort of ”tax” by the league.
The basic positions will closely resemble discussions about our government. The ”democratic” position is lumping all the money together for all teams and remitting to the league to be distributed according to policy. The ”republican” position is to give the revenues directly to each team and put a minimal ”tax” by the league on each team. Each of these is a MAJOR policy direction that will have short and long-term effects on how the SRI functions and the impact it will have on the underlying teams and surrounding economies… not to mention trading patterns…
I guarantee you that the day will come when this battle goes out front and center. It will be positively fascinating to see how it all plays out. It will be a tug-of-war between the shifting powers of the league versus the owners. In fact, I bet it will change many times and be under constant surveillance.

If you really want to understand the psychology of sports you probably should study the history of games in all different societies and how serious they took them. It is believed that in the Mayan culture the losers were sacrificed to the gods. In Greece, the winners were treated as gods. And in our society, [...]

“People will trade emotionally.”….That is true and is one of the reasons why I think the SRI’s will trade in a similar pattern with the win/loss record. The other is that the factors deriving the SRI are correlated to the win/loss record and will effect the SRI price over a longer period of time. This [...]

You have said the SRI can be used for hedging by teams. And you have also said the teams would have a vested interest in the SRI, possibly getting a percentage of each share traded. I don’t think the CFTC or SEC will allow teams to trade in derivitives they are getting income from. Can [...]
